ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Exploring new places, experiencing different cultures and landscapes, discovering new ways of seeing and being have always been compelling to me, generating an abundance of ideas for imagery. But above all, whether near or far away, it is the natural world I turn to most often for inspiration.
Printmaking is a valuable means to visually express my intrigue in all that nature holds. The thin and sensitive lines of an etching can capture the fragility of a decaying leaf, while the boldness of a woodcut can convey the likeness of an armadillo scuffling through layers of dead leaves with it’s snout.
The abundance of techniques available to the printmaking process is exciting and challenging. I enjoy using both traditional and newly discovered tools, methods and materials. Whatever my ideas or intentions, there are always surprises in the results.
Most important, whatever touches me deeply eventually finds its way into my work.
